Growing up in Vermont, I was always outdoors. I hiked, skied, played hockey, and raced mountain bikes. I also had a passion for art and science. I attended the University of Dayton and received my degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2004. I enjoyed the engineering world with several cutting edge companies and contributed to innovations that helped countless people. However, there was always something about designing someone else's widget that always left me wanting more, wanting to express MY creativity. I had always had a passion for visual art and photography specifically. Photography blends art and engineering. It requires visual perception of beauty and flow and design. It also requires mechanical knowledge of camera functions, lighting, and lens dynamics in order to achieve the best possible image. I was hooked. I left engineering to pursue photography full time. I have not looked back.
My Story
By day I run a large photo studio for a major internet retailer. We have several photographers working every day to produce product images for each of the thousands of items we carry. In my spare time I enjoy more personal projects that I can truly connect with on a personal and passionate level. I love digital photography and design, but I still shoot a LOT of film. There is nothing like having your hands on every single step of the production process. I develop my own film have outfitted my own darkroom where I have produced many of the images seen on the pages of the Gallery. So if you are interested in a one-off, completely personal, work of art or photo session, film is a great option with a great story behind it!
We have a crazy family with a ton of character. I work hard to capture the uniqueness of each subject that wanders in front of my camera lens. Whether it's a person, a group of people, or an inanimate object, the photo tells a story. There's more to an image than a face or an object. The viewer should FEEL something from that image. The image should draw you back.
